Hello! I am so glad to be back and participating in the monthly Pinterest Challenge. You know how sometimes you are just cruisin’ right along and then life forces you to take exits you didn’t plan on making? Well, that’s been the story here. Now it’s a new year and we are ready! Are you?

Welcome to January’s Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures.

The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, we chose to make blanket ladders—perfect gift ideas.

Personalized DIY Blanket Ladders

Blanket ladders are perfect gifts for family and friends. You can personalize them depending on the occasion which makes them so much fun to make. Better yet, you won’t have to spend a lot of money!

I’ve been wanting a blanket ladder for a while now. Love the farm style white ones as well as the rustic. Search “blanket ladders” on Pinterest and you will find all sorts of ladders. If you want to buy one they can be pretty pricey from over $200 dollars to $50 dollars. But there are several sources that claim you can make one for as little as $12.

Hmm…$12 dollars!?

Sold!

But wait! There’s more…

What if I could make a personalized blanket ladder as gifts and not spend more than $25 each?

Shanty 2 Chic is where I found my first inspiration. I love their style and their tutorials. They make DIY so much fun!

This was my first attempt with wood we already had on hand. It was hard for me. Trying to get the angles right as well as ensure each rung was level…(hand slap to face). Had to bring in the cavalry for another set of hands and a mathematical brain. Thanks, Hubby!

The blanket cost less than $20. Affordable and a perfect gift.

Then I found this design from Home Made Lovely. Shannon claims you can make a ladder in 30 minutes. No angles to navigate. All you need are 1x1s and 1x3s which are cheap. Purchased mine at Home Depot.

Hubby though didn’t really care for the design so he went and ripped some boards to make all of these ladders!

Once sanded I worked on giving them that rustic farm style look. With chalk paint, stain and some light sanding got the look I was looking for.

But that wasn’t enough. Since these were going to be gifts, I wanted to try and make them personal to the person it was being gifted to.

What better way to do that than to make some farm style signs?

I used Picmonkey to write out the message. Then I printed and tapped to a window (You remember doing this in school, right?). Next I cut some artist grade paper to size, placed it over the taped image and traced the lettering. Once that was done, used a Sharpie to fill it in. Easy!

The frames I purchased at Walmart for only $4 dollars.

So depending on the type of wood, the cost of blanket and quality of frame, one blanket ladder cost about $20-$25 dollars. That doesn’t factor in the stain, paint, brushes, wood screws, or sandpaper as we had all of this on hand.

We had some left-over pieces so he made this cute little towel ladder — or could even be used as a scarf ladder.

Here’s another ladder …

So many ideas and ways to dress these pretties up and gift to that someone special.
